Abstract

Vampirism is an extremely exuberant issue both in literature and in cinema. It has undergone several changes throughout the ages. By analysing those changes the thought constructions that were born in the human mind are clearly visible. The creation of a vampire is not deprived of brutality, bloodthirst or sexuality. The author of the article tries to show that vampirism is a phenomenon of social origin. In author's opinion all the fears, demons and phantasmagorias, monsters and vampires are a reflection of a society that created those beings. In the contemporary time both culture and the artists and creators of culture seem to use only one element of vampirism - its ridiculous character.
