Idee nowej muzeologii wyznaczyły kierunek przeformułowań i jeśli nie wpłynęły dotąd na stan niektórych placówek, to z pewnością powinny stanowić dla nich punkt odwołania. Kolejne zmiany w obrębie postrzegania i funkcjonowania instytucji związanych z dziedzictwem kulturowym wyznaczyło hasło „zwrotu w stronę odbiorców”. Swój najpełniejszy wyraz znalazło w koncepcji muzeum partycypacyjnego, opisanej przez Ninę Simon, dyrektorkę Muzeum Sztuki i Historii w Santa Cruz.

Abstract

Museums of the future

The article presents the current and future directions of museum development. In the introduction, I describe museums as institutions subject to modifications, I mention revolutions that affected them, and critical theories that had an impact on the character of museums. Then, I focus on the areas of museum operations which are crucial from today’s perspective. I analyse the movement described as a shift toward the museum recipient, that is engaging the visitors in the museum programmes and activities on many levels, rather than treating them as passive observers. I also present the role of new technologies which significantly influenced the form of the audience’s contact with cultural heritage. Then, I analyse the artist-in-residence programmes offered by museums, which are becoming more and more popular these days. Finally, I focus on the role of critical approach adopted by some museums, for instance by revising past practices concerning the collection and exhibition of objects.
